I donno if I'd say that there's anything really inherently "wrong" with the design, as a cyborg per-say. I think the problem is that it looks like a cross between Batman and Ironman and that's all that it looks like.
It doesn't really feel like they tried to be original with the design at all. It feels like someone looked at the success of the batman and ironman films and just visually copied that aesthetic in a misguided attempt to appeal to the people who liked those movies.

Personally I really don't know if Robo Cop is a franchise that can be rebooted. Everything that made the originals so iconic was the cheesy 80s camp. Something you just cant get away with these days. Just look at how poorly Tron Legacy was received.
