Having lots of friends is 1 key to gaining all the resources needed to progress. It's a great way to build shield points which are used for research and item purchases (not the gold ones). Post your facebook account and I'm sure some members will add you.

Two pieces of advice:
#1 and most important: look up the leethax extension for firefox.
#2 save your gold for now. Do not do anything with it unless it is for a limited time item or converting it to CP for a LIMITED costume/character. Under no circumstance should you use gold on a customized weapon at your level.
