It basically auto-pilots your flight deck for you so you do not have to manually click anything. Leave it a lone for a few hours and you should notice a jump in your silver, not to mention it'll give your characters some xp while you are away.

You can also resource collect from all your neighbors with 1 click instead of going from friend to friend and manually clicking all the damn buildings.

Lastly, I use it to speed up the battle animations I highly recommend it.

Edit: I've been away most the day and just got on to find my pvp score went up 55 points! That's probably the most I've seen, usually it's a loss of points. I have to wonder how many of those were cheap wins due to my opponent getting the refresh win. Hell it might just be better if I avoid pvp and let the refresh bug toss me into Vibranium league.
