And to add to what Exodus said, your character keeps the same exp. level regardless of the outfit and you also get to switch back and forth between the alternate suits (and hero type, if you decide to get one that's different from his/her base type). But the ISO thing is a bit annoying sometimes (and potentially expensive, if you want to max the new suit out as well).

For example, I have both the Blaster and Bruiser versions of Annihilation Human Torch, so I can switch him between the two depending on the opponents and still keep my bonuses from the suit and partnering with the FF versions of Sue, Ben, Reed and Peter.
