All collectors go through a "burnout" phase at one time or another. In some cases, such as myself, it happens more than once.

The first time I grew out of toys was right around high school (end of G2 and before BW) and it continued into college (until RID was released). The second time was much later (late 20's), and it was preceded by the epiphany "Why the hell did I buy that?" when I had to pack up a bunch of stuff to move into a new apartment with my then-girlfriend (now wife).

Back then, I used to collect any number of toy lines and licensed miscellaneous crap (comics, playing cards/CCG/TTG, kid's meal toys, etc.), but now I've limited it to these toy lines: Transformers, G.I.Joe (only certain characters now) and Marvel Universe. My interests haven't changed, just my collecting habits.

Do I regret selling a lot of my older toys? In some cases, sure. But I'm actively buying those back even though it will probably take me a few more years to do it. There are others that I absolutely do not regret selling and wish I had never bought them in the first place. Not because they were bad toys, just that they were only a passing interest or a toy that someone talked me into getting (by review, forum posts, videos etc).

Basically, I've gone from the impulse-buying toy hoarder to a finicky collector like Snow mentioned.

This line right here says to me that you've already made up your mind. But as far as what to keep and what to sell, I would suggest you start pulling toys from the shelves randomly. Fiddle with them and see if they spark any interest or if you just feel like putting them back on the shelf. If it's the latter, you might as well sell it.

That's probably the easiest way to condense your collection when you're not sure if you want to keep something or not.

In the end though, it's all up to you.
