There are no such things as "reasonably priced" storage solutions. It blows my mind how expensive clear plastic cases (either of the hard or soft variety) can be. In most cases you're going to spend more money on storage items than what your collection cost you.
Glass cabinets are a fine piece of eye candy, but it appears in your case this too would get costly as you would be looking at a custom made cabinet to suit your specific needs. You also need to factor in space issues.
AFA is a complete rip off. I don't know how a group of random collectors/salesmen can claim to be the end all be all go to source for grading toys. It's nothing more than an opinion, and the way I hear it, that opinion is bias depending on the volume of business you do with them. Putting an item in a clear plastic box with a number on it doesn't make the condition any better or worse (Rant over).
Its because of the combinations listed above that I simply display my collection on bookshelves, and dust regularly. But, I also open all my toys, so there is no risk of damage by dusting.
However, if you want to go the absolute cheapest route possible, then do the following;
1) Buy large sheets of 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick clear plastic (or however thick you want)
2) Buy a sawzall
3) Buy a T-Square Ruler
4) Buy a measuring tape
5) Buy a good epoxy glue
6) Cut and assemble your own cases
Doing this will not only get the most quantity for your dollar, but it will also allow you to make your own specific sized custom cases.
