My one and only PAK is the Lara Croft I just got with my copy of the game. I'll admit that the paint and detail is quite nice and I like it because it's a pretty good representation of the newly redesigned Lara but... man, are the joints on these figures
ugly
!
It's distracting and really ruins the otherwise great sculpt. Luckily Lara gets so banged up in the game that I can probably make bandages/wraps to cover up the joints and it won't be noticeable, but otherwise, I don't know... other than the articulation with great range of movement I don't understand why these are so popular.
For me it's the sculpt/detail/paint apps combined with the articulation; no other company is making any figures like that for under $100. Sometimes SE goes overboard on paint especially on faces, like for BroShep from ME3, but sometimes they nail it.
If another company was making a similar line but better, and for the same price, I wouldn't be buying PAKs.
I think PVC is used for construction because it's easier to sculpt/reproduce finer details with it than it is with stiffer plastics. However for as many strengths that PVC has, whatever weaknesses it has rears its ugly head in this line.
