Anyone else find this bit a little silly? In this great melting pot of a country we have, being American only identifies your geography (and in the strictest terms, two possible continents). Not to say they can't hire someone who isn't white, blonde-haired and blued-eyed, but the whole reason Steve Rogers was designed that way is because those features were what Hitler considered "the master race", yet Rogers always fought against him and his Third Reich. Also, there are several great non-American actors who can do a really convincing American accent (Hugh Laurie, Simon Baker, Craig Ferguson, etc). Of course, I wouldn't expect any of them to do Captain America.

Right now, I think Thomas Jane would be good for the role. But he is a known actor so it may not be an option for this director.
