Transformers: The Ride-3D at Universal Studios Orlando

I had a chance to check out the "technical rehearsal" for Transformers: The Ride-3D at Universal Orlando today. Taking advantage of today's 3D technology, Transformers fans will be able to join NEST agents to do battle for control of the Allspark. You’ll climb into EVAC and take on Megatron, Starscream, Ravage and a host of other Decepticons!

Walking down the main path way to the ride, you are greeted with a life-sized scale of Optimus Prime that overlooks the park. NEST agents greet you at the gate and recruit you into the battle. Once you enter the main building, there are several "chambers" each one with its own recruitment video, training exercises and Transformers props that help pass the time while you make your way to the main event. The posted waiting time for the ride is 90 minutes, but it turned out to be a little over 45 minutes to make it through the line and enter EVAC.

Once you make your way to the EVAC vehicle, 12 people enter the car and the ride begins. The first battle is Ravage, he jumps out at EVAC shooting lasers and grabs the Allspark. The ride continues on as you battle through the streets fighting the Decepticons at each station, with Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and NEST agents helping EVAC.

Right from the start, the 3D effects were like nothing I have ever seen in a movie, or any other 3D ride I have been on. At one point, Megatron shoots a missile off at your face, and you can physically feel the heat as it passes by, while smoke and wind activate to give you the best effects I have ever seen put into a rail system virtual simulator. The motion of the car shifting into gear and high acceleration feels real and is very entertaining. Transformers: The Ride-3D succeeds in captivating the senses at every corner. The total ride time is just over 3 minutes.

As you exit the ride, you are led down a ramp into the "Supply Vault". If you’re a fan of the Transformers movies, you’ll hit the merchandise jackpot! Everything from shirts, hats and my personal favorite, coffee mugs! There are also high-end film cell collectibles and, of course Transformers toys. There is even a few things us G1 fans can appreciate, like 15" tall G1 style Autobot and Decepticon wall logos.

The grand opening for Transformers: The Ride-3D is June 21st. If you’re heading to Florida for vacation, put this attraction on your “must do” list.

Check out over 100+ images from the Transformers: The Ride-3D event after the jump.

Later!
