Next up in our series of new Transformers Generations toy galleries we have a look at Rhinox's casemate, Doubledealer! Doubledealer is a mercenary, a Transformer who is amoral enough to belong to neither Autobot nor Decepticon, and skilled enough to be approached by bidders from both sides seeking his skills, according to his bio.

This version of Doubledealer is a redeco of the earlier Generations Blitzwing with a new head sculpt. The new head sculpt is pretty cool, and is based on how Doubledealer's head was drawn in his two major IDW comics appearances, Spotlight Hot Rod and Spotlight Doubledealer, where he was a double agent, playing the role of Hot Rod's ally while actually working for the Decepticon Banzai-Tron. Doubledealer has a nice sharp deco, which brings out a lot of details in the mold and manages to recall a whole lot of the style of the Generation 1 version of the character. A nice nod to the original is the use of both Autobot and Decepticon symbols on the alternate modes, with the jet mode being used as the Decepticon mode in lieu of a bird mode like the original Doubledealer had (Hasbro has met us halfway, though, by painting a suitably fierce looking face on the jet mode).

Overall, Doubledealer is a nicely done remold of what was a good and fun toy. The new deco is a lot of fun, and the new head sculpt is nothing short of excellent. Doubledealer accomplishes what any good remold or redeco should do and gives the Blitzwing mold a fresh identity to suit this new character. Granted, some of Blitzwing's flaws - like those shoulders - carry over, but other elements of the design felt improved on mine. I would invite everyone to take a look at the gallery linked below, and take a good long look at this one when he arrives in stores, because he's a good deco, a great headsculpt, and hey, when is the next time we are likely to see a homage to a guy like Doubledealer?
