Greetings, Arkers! Excelsior here with my newest work in progress - Tony's Silver Centurion armor in Marvel Universe scale!
Unfortunately, school has been less than forgiving, so I haven't had nearly enough time as I would like to work on this one. For that reason, it's going pretty slow.
So I came across the "Silver Centurion" Iron Man from Wave 5 a while back, but I didn't like it that much. It's just a repaint of the Iron Man from Wave 1, which I already have. Plus, most of the ones I saw had less-than-great paint apps. So when I saw the Classic Red/Yellow Iron Man figure from the Iron Man 2 line, I thought that would be a great base for a custom Silver Centurion. Thus started my second custom project.
As fellow Arker eisen would agree, this sculpt looked perfect for a Silver Centurion custom (check out his rendition of the Silver Centurion
here
). However, there was still quit a bit of modding to do to the sculpt. After taking the figure apart (boil & pop), the first part I worked on was the lower abdomen. The upper thighs were extremely difficult to pop off, so be careful if you decide to work with this figure. I modeled the belt area using Super Sculpy, then boiling it to harden the sculpy. Super Sculpy wouldn't always be my modeling medium of choice, but given that I just started customizing, it's easiest to work with and I just happened to have a box of it on hand.
I then sanded down the circles on either side of his waist to give them a more angular look. I still need to touch up the paint and fix those pesky paint rub areas. The ball joints on the legs are always the toughest areas to work with on these Iron Man 2 figures, arrgh! The last thing I did for the lower body was sculpt the boots. These were pretty straight forward. I tried my best to keep the definition of the calves. The boots were done with the same boiled Sculpy method as the belt area.
The details on upper torso were tedious, but I got through it, lol. I wanted to do a more hexagonal chest piece then the regular triangle one. I'm currently doing a bit of neck surgery on the head joint. When attached, his head is slanted down too much, so I'm gonna try to straighten it out a bit. I would love to give him a hinge joint like the MU Extremis Iron Man has, but I doubt I could pull that off, lol. The shoulder pads were taken off of a
Strike Mission Wolverine
from the
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
line. The lines were carved with an Exacto.
I don't have pictures of the forarms and hands yet. Since I'm gonna be sculpting the gauntlets across the entire forarm, it's gonna hinder the swivel joint that's there. So what I'm gonna have to do is make a simple cut joint at the wrist. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I'm gonna do that, haha.
That's my progress so far. Finals are coming up for me, so I might have to neglect this one once again.
Anyways, bring it on with the comments, people. And be gentle...
