The mismatched nature of the mutations in this series really helps to push the idea that mutation is
not
a pleasant process. Back in the older lines, it always seemed like mutations were pretty clean affairs, depending on the animal/person involved, but I have seen very few mutations in the new series that don't evoke some major horror elements. Snakeweed, Dogpound/Rahzar, Fishface, Baxter, Wing Nut, Ice Cream Kitty... and friggin' Mutagen Man was just horrific.
As for the clothing, well... given how body-modifying a lot of the mutations have been, I doubt many people have multiple outfits that will fit their new bodies.
