On the other hand, I feel I have to mention Mattel is not the only company to do really stupid and/or obscure homages. Hasbro has done that several times with Transformers, Star Wars and G.I.Joe.

Yes, DDU is not going to be made now. That does not mean Mattel was never going to make it, which is what you said in your previous post. They fully planned on making DDU, but weren't able to get enough pre-sales of the sub to cover the cost of its production run.
