I just cannot get into any movie that deals with exorcisms. I do not know why. I love stories that deal with magick, demons, the super natural, etc, but if you throw in exorcism, you have lost me. I can only suspend my sense of disbelief so much and exorcisms is where my sense goes away. They tend to be over acted, over done, and just flat out stupid.
I enjoyed Zombie's first crack at Halloween because it gave us a glimpse into Michael's childhood and motivations. The story felt a bit more fleshed out and I felt it paid a nice tribute to the original film.

Zombie's second one, was one of the hardest movies that I have ever had to sit through. It turned every likeable character into scumbags, featured way too much of his wife looking like she did in the "Living Dead Girl" music video, and the whole white horse metaphor was lame, drawn out, and went nowhere. Add in Myer's unmasking (looking like a beefed up hobo Rob Zombie no less) and the fact that he actually speaks, and it's easily one of the worst sequels in any series outside of the Hellraiser franchise (which has really gotten crapped on through the years.)

I also have to agree on exorcism and "obake" style ghost films. (The Ring, Grudge, etc.) They are just not scary to me. A kid meowing on the ceiling, or walking out of my TV? Come'ere kid...meet my friend Louisville Slugger.

Most "haunting" movies are equally bad. When the "The Conjuring" came out, while people were screaming, I had a look on my face like "seriously?" and I nearly wanted to walk out of the theater by how bad it was.

Exorcism movies I've just learned to stay away from. There's nothing new in any of them...contorting bodies, bleeding from the eyes, stigmata, darth maul eyes, walking up walls....oooookay. Half the time, I end up shaking my head while laughing at how ridiculous they are.

Just like there are a few of us out there that doesn't understand the appeal of slasher flicks, I'm one of the ones that don't get Stephen King. He's had some neat flicks (Misery, Sleepwalkers, Christine) but I just don't find the guy's stuff to be scary. Maybe I'm desensitized...=(

The only one I saw from Kevin Smith was Red State. Interesting film, but hardly a horror film. It's actually just more of Kevin Smith's takes on organized religion that he briefly skimmed over in "Dogma" and the dangers it brings when you add the type of cult fanaticism to it that we are seeing more and more in our world today. More of a thriller, and is kinda underwhelming, but I thought that the ending was fantastic. It comes from out of left field and you never see it coming.

I haven't gotten around to seeing Tusk yet, but I hope to soon.
