It takes over an hour to even get to Manhattan. The chronology is messed up as there is no way this movie could be 30 years later when there was 15 years after Jason died to when his mother got killed, 5 years for the events of the second through the fourth movies, ten years for the sixth, fifteen years for the seventh, and now this. That makes it at least 40 years. Jason has suddenly developed the ability to teleport. On the positive side, I can at least say this movie proves he does not have ADD since he has hundreds of people he can kill at his whim but only sticks to going after the main characters. Of course, he doesn't help then Renney seems to have her character shields on at all times since there were multiple occasions when Jason could have just killed her back on the boat. Finally, that ending is just flat out stupid. Why is NYC flooding their sewers with toxic waste each night? Is that part of a new "Get Rid of the Alligators" initiative? And how does this waste make Jason turn into a boy? That makes no sense. Now the movie does have some great moments in it, especially when it came to the scenes in Manhattan. I love the scene when Jason first emerges from the bay and there is a hockey mask sign. Also the death scenes are awesome, especially the one with the boxer. It was a cool idea to bring Jason to a big city, as I love everything about that, but this movie takes too damn long to get there and spends too short of a time there. At least the pay off is good for the most part. Unfortunately, most of the characters are just flat out stupid to be likable, assholes, or their acting is just really really awful. Some of the worst in the entire series. Overall, I give this movie a 4/10 as it does at least make a good ending point for those who find the next set of movies to be pure crap.
I wanna know how Jason managed to get on a boat floating on a dock in the north Atlantic from the water, traveling there through the waters of a LAKE? Does Camp Crystal Lake have some kind of canal? And if it wasn't through the lake waters, what back roads did he take to get there so as to not being spotted by anyone along the way? Oh yeah, never mind, you mentioned it already...He now effectively has the ability to teleport. (Yet another reason I hate the Kane Hodder series of films, this habit didn't seem to start until he showed up in the series, and has continued all the way up to the remake/reboot.)

I could sit here and bag on part 8 for hours because it's a really bad movie, but this movie has two of my favorite death scenes in all of them...one being the boxer and two being the strangulation of (a very young) Kelly Hu's character in the disco. The way that Jason presses her into the ceiling above her, then unceremoniously dumps her on the floor has always struck me as impressive.

Also...New York wasn't flushing out alligators at night, they were making ninja turtles.... =P

Also...as a huge fan, I really feel that that series ending point takes place in part 6, as it finally finishes up the Tommy Jarvis saga. After that, the series becomes a bunch of individual tales, with many of them coming off with the sensibility of Ernest P. Warrell movies (Jason goes to New York! Jason goes to space! Jason goes to Hell!) While "The Final Friday" wasn't a terrible movie, they made the same mistake with it that they did with Michael Myers, they tried to turn Jason into some supernatural being with powers that went far beyond him being a zombie with a single goal in mind.

I don't consider Freddy Vs. Jason to be a part of the series either really. It's more of a fun piece of fan fiction if anything.

The reboot/remake was really well done for the most part. My only issue was that the director seemed more intent on appeasing the "fans" of the franchise with the stereotypical stuff of what SHOULD be in a Friday the 13th film than actually giving us something scary. There was more horny asshole teenagers, T&A, and drug use in that film than there was in the mighty Part 5, (which hit new lows in the series with that stuff and was actually directed by a guy who started his career in porn,) and it was to the point where it became shlock. Listening to the fans and following the mold doesn't always a good movie make. Sometimes you end up with something awesome that hits the geek spot, but sometimes you end up with "Snakes on a Plane." I could go more into it, but I'd like to see your review on it to see if you agree with some of the points I have about it. =)
