The video makes it hard to distinguish between the sound and visual effects of video production and those to be produced by the box itself. For example, the synthesizer keyboard sounds aren't especially Mother Box-ish, but the first cluster of pings are perfect IMO. By necessity, it has to offer SOME sort of 'boom' sound, plus sundry other strange noises, with fluctuation in lighting to match: an alien karaoke device. One example that comes to mind would be a pulsating sound with flickering to match, starting low and building up to a short, clipped 'boom.'
I side with the designers: a box would be better than a rectangle. In a modern office environment of rectangular tablets, laptops and books, the square shape is more distinctive and eye-catching as a desk accessory (toy). And the symbolism is more enigmatic, reminiscent (among horror-movie-watching collectors at least) of the
Lament Configuration
. Also, the shape of a box might enable more sophisticated electronic options, like identical lighting for each side of the device, not to mention better quality sound production.
Addendum: If they really want to go over the top, they might add an auxiliary port and make the lights fluctuate to music from your MP3 player! That doesn't seem like an unrealistic addition, though of course it's my idea and I expect compensation.
The computer user in the video appears to be addressing an email to 'Calibri,' the name of a typeface font. I wonder why they put that in the video.
I like the look of this. Where I work, few will know what a Mother Box is.
