Hot Toys make some of the most detailed action figures available and the figures have a price tag that reflect that level of detail. Much the reason why I don't own any of them. So now they are releasing figures to complete directly against Pop Funko? They are the least detailed and some of the cheapest ways to represent your fandoms.

So I guess I'm just wondering why one of the most expensive toy companies would want to release something that competes with one of the cheapest toys on the market?
Funko is a North American company, and their products aren't huge at Japanese retailers. Hot Toys is based in Japan, so the market crossover is relatively small outside of the few online retailers that would carry both. and while these are certainly stylized, they are far more detailed than a Pop! Vinyl Figure.

Also, this looks to be the first in a series of collaborations with artists/designers for the Artist Mix Collection. So I expect to see some wildly different designs with each new collaborator.

As for the reason to do this, it's simple, they are expanding their brand beyond one type of collectible. They're opening themselves up to a different market, and that's going to bring in money and customers that would otherwise not buy your product.

Also, this is not the first time Hot Toys has done stylized simpler figures. They've been doing things like this for a long time.
