My guess is that the Retro "Mego" style figures are cheaper to tool therefore cheaper to make. The figures all use the same body as opposed to there 7" line which requires unique body types. For some characters, I think they prefer them to look more retro due to the character's design or era they're from.
Personally, I like the 1 shot release in this style. Gives people more reason to buy this line. Not just a unique style, unique character too! I do think that Snake and George Taylor should be released in 7" scale.
