Geez, so nit-picky over verbiage while ignoring my original point!
Yes, it costs dough to get into SDCC, and people all have their "thing" that they're into, and they're generally all too willing to spend what it takes to get those "things." But SDCC (or, rather, the companies attending it) are all too willing to prey upon that by upping the number of exclusive releases each and every year while the quality and effort into producing them seems to be going down consistently at the same time. A lot of SDCC exclusives, from what I remember, used to be unique items specifically made for the con, and they were usually of very high-quality. Hell, some people, like NECA, still do that (like the Mrs. Voorhees/little Jason retro set). But there just seems to be a growing number of vendors who take existing items and change the colors slightly or whatnot, or churn out something cheap, slap an outrageous price tag on them, and put them out there, knowing they'll be bought. Crap like He-Men figures with rainbow-colored limbs or a cardboard house for Reaction figures for $75.
Hell, now that I've taken the time to type all this out, I guess I really can't blame the companies for doing this. After all, they are in business to make money and these items are indeed selling. It's the people that are buying this junk that I guess are more to blame for this phenomena growing like it is.
Of course, I say all this while coveting Funko's un-masked 2015 SDCC Jason Voorhees POP, although that one at least has a new head sculpt, dammit!
I know, I suck. *sob*
