do you know why they keep re-releasing the DYRL fighters?
DYRL? is more popular in Japan than the TV series, and Yamato needs to recoup money invested in tooling the molds. The rising labor costs in China since 2008(or possibly earlier, 2008 was the 1st time I read about it on their blog), and the worsening economic situation in Japan makes repaints viable sources for quick money. It satisfies fans and Yamato in these respects:
  • Fulfills completists' desire to have every onscreen variant of the VF-1 from the TV series and DYRL?
  • Easy money for Yamato
By now, the V2 1/60 VF-1 line has eclipsed the 1/48 line with its sheer number of releases. Who knew we were even going to get such obscure Valkyries such as the Virgin Road, and MP VF-1J? Quite honestly, the Virgin Road isn't something I was very excited about, and it isn't something I plan on buying, but I think it's cool that Yamato made it. Yamato is going to need the extra money to pump out newer designs, like the Fire Valkyrie and anything else they announce from here on out.

Remember, Takatoku was doing great in the 80's but still went bankrupt. While some say that Yamato milks the V2 1/60 VF-1 design molds a lot, if it keeps them afloat, I say more power to them. It's one of the best toys they've ever made(barring shoulder hinge issues).
