I agree that first impressions with a character guide any fan's interpretation moving forward. Many fans have been made with strong writing and well thought out concepts, which normally leads to years of devotion to a hero or team. I also believe that consistency in the presentation of a character plays a crucial role in whether a hero remains a personal favorite. However, once an established personality reaches a certain level of popularity and begins to show up in multiple titles, it becomes increasingly hard to maintain the ethos of that hero. Some writers do a good job at maintaining continuity while allowing a character to develop into something greater, and others simply see an opportunity to shoehorn a popular personality into their stories only touching on their more sensationalized traits. Unfortunately, when it's the latter, heroes start to feel long in the tooth and interest fades across the board. Wolverine happens to be one of those characters that started very strong, but after years of prostituting, he's been reduced to trope status. Marvel has jumped so many sharks with characters like Wolverine and the Punisher that there is little left to do with them other than kill them off to allow for a reset...hopefully a reset that will bring them closer to their original depth.

...and Deadpool? Feh, he's always been a super-clown in my book. I never expect much from him, nor am I ever disappointed in his portrayal. I'm ambivalent to him at best.
