Bendis isn't the only one and yes I think it's pretty fair to place some blame on the company overall since they still have their bottom line but Bendis is a particular example of screwing with what made certain characters appealing.

I fully agree about Sam. He has definitely grown on me as well. I would have been interested in having both Sam and Rich as many other fans have asked for.

I think Bendis' problem is he's the type who goes "I have this really great idea. Oh but this character has all this established history that counteracts that idea. I know, I'll just ignore it because my idea is better". Probably harsher than it needs to be but seeing things he has done, it really makes me wonder.

I read his Guardians up until about 2 months ago. In all that time I never saw an explanation for the appearance change so I am just going to say yes, total hand wave.

Side note, kind of sad I stopped reading comics since Abnett just started a new Guardians based series that sounds awesome.
