First ask why and read the history about hero names like Black Panther, and channels like BET. Then sit and think if the motivations behind the creation of all those things you listed are no longer valid in today's society. THEN ask yourself, are the titles of these heroes, events, awards, etc., really the reason why underrepresented minorities aren't getting a fair shake in the media? As an asian, every asian character I see in american media is typically just a parody of a known asian stereotype (martial artist, science nerd, fob), and while the oscars didn't nominate a black actor this time around, you can probably measure the amount of time between asian nominees in 5-10 year increments. Yet, we don't have "Yellow Thunder" running around in the MU, or a widely known "AET" network featuring all Asian casts. What you and people like Stacey Dash are assuming is that integration will be some natural byproduct if you get rid of things highlighting black folks, but it could just end up making blacks and minorities that much easier for the mainstream to ignore, while at the same time robbing some folks of characters or accomplishments they take pride in.
This is obviously a total derail bomb of a discussion, so I'll resume my Legends forum retirement after this post, but trust me, getting society to be "fair" is going to be a lot harder than changing some old names and titles around.
Please don't leave, bruh! LOL

I was laboring over whether or not I should chime in on this topic. Contemplating just how much American history should be added with the juxtaposition of current and topical events...then you up and write something that not only relieved my angst, but made me chuckle. The only thing I would add is that characters like the Black Panther/Black Goliath/Black Racer/Black Mass/Black Vulcan didn't name themselves, nor were they likely named by African Americans. Marvel, at that time (as they are now), was simply trying to expand their brand/readership/sales. What to do? Let's make a bunch of ridiculously named black characters without ever considering how our efforts represent nearly the antithesis of inclusion. It wasn't a well thought-out measure to create genuine diversity, or the result of some altruistic epiphany, but more as a method to increase the bottom line. Companies like Marvel and industries such as Hollywood respond to money and demographics. Hollywood is adapting to the current population changes at a slower clip than is publishing and the media. However, the writing is on the wall; recent studies (2012) place domestic non-Caucasian ticket sales at 44%. Want to stay relevant? Get on board and increase the 'voices' not just within what is offered on screen, but with regard to who's penning the stories.

@Dark

Stacey was a good looking woman...until she opened her mouth and let us know the measure of her intellect and the depth of her self-loathing. IMO Attraction is mostly mental and if your mentals ain't straight, then you may as well be Olive Oil...or the Sea Hag...as far as I'm concerned
