The 3rd wave of alpha vehicles in the Rise Of Cobra line(which the Lava Pod With Volcano Viper was released in) was released overseas and in Canada. There were literally a handful of reported sightings in the US. Amongst collectors, one of the biggest draws of this wave was the Volcano Viper.

So perhaps this repaint is another way for collectors to get their hands on a Volcano Viper. Could it be packed with a different vehicle this time around, or perhaps solo, in an exclusive wave? Or could GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra be extended, and include this figure and other hard to obtain figures? In any case, this figure is pretty far along, being fully painted with printed markings already. Perhaps we shall see it at retail early next year, or maybe even earlier.
