And just because it's an action figure doesn't mean it doesn't have to still look good striking a pose on your shelf or in pictures. If that's the case, then everybody would be saying ToyBiz Spider-Woman is better than Hasbro Spider-Woman and that's clearly not the case. It's not about characters looking like they're in a "porn mag" it's about having characters that look like people and not weird freakazoid monsters.

ToyBiz, bless their souls, they were great, but the downfall of a lot of their Legends, particularly their female ones, was a lot of unnecessary articulation that made their female figures look pretty damn ugly. Somebody would have to make a damn good argument for why Hasbro's lady legends aren't ten times better than ToyBiz's despite the decrease in articulation.
Just thought that was ironic seeing as no human out there has a waist twist/cut. The more "correct" joint physically is, in fact, the diaphragm umm pivot (or whatever you call it) that the females have. Your belly button (i.e. torso) does not really move independently from your crotch area ....
Not supporting the new MLs in any way, just pointing this out.
Having said that, I dont think the new MLs have an issue regarding articulation but rather, as most people have probably already mentioned, most of the figures have somewhat funky proportions and/or lots of re-used parts.
The DC Icons line is doing it right, imho. They have pretty decent articulation and each one is uniquely sculpted with decent amount of accessories. In a way they are just as good as the Toybiz figures. The only issue (for most) is that they are somewhat smaller than your regular figure.
