In the end...I say just buy what you like, regardless of whether or not the media is any good. I despise the Transformers movies, yet I snagged up every single Dinobot I could find simply because I liked the designs and how they turned out. That movie though..well...calling it garbage is really being nice about it.
En Sabah's example with AVP was another good example, or an even better one would be NECA's recent figures from Terminator Genisys. That movie was 90 minutes of utter stupidity and confusion, and would have been more honestly titled: Terminator: Monkeys Wrote The Script. However the figures that came out of that line (especially the Byun Hyun Kim T-1000) were all excellent, despite the horrible property that they came out of.
Besides, once a figure is yours...it's yours to do whatever you like with it. Sure it has it's own stigma of the film that came before it, but once that figure is yours, would you rather just re-enact scenes from the movie...or play out your own adventures?
