Re-telling a famous story in an engaging fashion is no small challenge. Call it the Art of the Re-Hash. 'Force Awakens' was successful because it essentially re-hashed 'New Hope,' giving us a fresh glimpse of old favorites and laying groundwork for some new, unresolved plot threads. Which is going to be more profitable going forward - continued indulgence of fan demand for nostalgia, or something completely new? 'Rogue One' looks like a brilliant way to balance the demand for another re-hash while adding new spin and hopefully some surprises. I suspect that it will succeed where the Abrams Star Trek reboot failed, because it avoids the worst decision, which was to throw canon and continuity out the window.
