It's been a long running issue with Star Wars.

The problem I find is that the sewn seams are *way* too large to be believable in scale, plus there's usually a fold-over of the cloth to make that seam which just doubles the problem. They need to use semi-plastic fabrics that auto-seal the seam when cut with a heated blade (like Rorschach did for his mask) or the FrayCheck seam 'glue' that doesn't require sewing. Do that with a thin enough fabric (unlike the wooly fabric that's about a whole millimeter thick, which is about 3 inches thick in 18th scale) and it's all good.
