Sideshow recently revealed an all-new venture into proprietary collectibles with our Blackbeard Premium Format figure. This fearsome statue features an incredible amount of primo detailing, and we were just too excited to keep it to ourselves any longer! Here’s the rundown on our new Blackbeard Premium Format Figure, which will be available for Pre-Order soon (watch your Newsletters!):
The historically authentic costume is the handiwork of Greg Mowry from Geppetto Productions. It features a detailed jacket called a Justaucorps, which has 48 buttons in total. Under the jacket, Blackbeard wears a vest, which has an additional 24 buttons for a grand total of 72 buttons per figure! The pants are called slops and are a type of trouser worn by sailors in the 18th century. Mr. Mowry spared no detail to create an authentic, accurate and really beautiful costume for Blackbeard, and it definitely shows.
Trevor Grove sculpted Blackbeard, and he did an outstanding job of capturing the brigand’s true essence, from the scowl and gnarled teeth to the 18th century buckled shoes. As the name suggests, Blackbeard was most recognizable for his trademark hair and beard, which are captured in the sculpt, right down to the braids and ribbons. The head sculpt even includes Blackbeard’s earrings and favorite method of intimidation - cannon fuse under his tri-cornered hat. (Blackbeard would light these on fire before boarding a captive ship to give a devilish air to his already fearsome presence.)
The Blackbeard figure stands roughly twenty inches tall atop the intricate ship-themed base, made by Todd Waters. The design is decked out with a ten-inch cannon, which is a model copy of an actual barrel found in the wreckage of the Queen Ann’s Revenge, Blackbeard’s flagship recently discovered off the coast of North Carolina. This immense base conveys the scene from which Blackbeard is captured, with turmoil and chaos and brutality all around him.
On top of all of this craftsmanship and detail, Blackbeard features some amazing accessory additions that really complete the figure. Carried in his belly box and sling, Blackbeard comes with six Queen Ann pistols, which are removable from their holsters. Blackbeard also carries an additional pistol, an English ‘dog lock’ pistol, in his left hand and a clam shell hunting hanger sword in his right hand. The Sideshow Exclusive edition even comes with his boarding ax.
Feast your eyes on the full image gallery below to check out this piece of swashbuckling history and see the incredible detail of the Blackbeard Premium Format figure. This outstanding statue is not to be missed, so keep an eye on the horizon for your chance to Pre-Order this amazing addition to your collection!
