So I just finished reading up to 108 in the X-Men Omnibus and except for one moment, everything has been great. Things have gotten a tad bit confusing, especially because the exposition didn't help matters, but that also could be because I saw the cartoon adaptation first, so I'm so used to that that this version was confusing. Neverthless, I have been having a blast reading all of these issues except for what was issue 106, it felt like it didn't belong there. I mean, at the end of 105 Phoenix and the X-Men travel through the stargate.

However, 106 just jumps with them in the danger room and everything ends up being a dream essentially created by an evil version of Xavier, but it just doesn't make any sense because there is no transition to this happening. Not to mention Phoenix isn't even present in the issue one bit and yet, somehow Xavier's darkside manage to fly across the entire cosmos to fight them in a dream? Did they arrive out of the stargate and just stare at the Imperial Guard the entire time they fought their imaginary predecessors? I just don't understand how that issue fits into the overall narrative.

That aside, like I said, everything else has been great. I thought the issue with Magneto's return (from being transformed into a baby??) was wonderful. I am surprised how little the Starjammers were featured in this arc though and that it was already revealed that Corsair is Scott's father, especially since nothing is even resolved on that front. We don't even see the duo's farewell.

With that said, I'm trying to sell some stuff so I can buy Volumes 2 and 3 because god damn, I want to continue reading this stuff in order as far as I can. Although, it is weird that the cover to Volume 1 is like a reprint of the original Giant Sized cover while 2 is a new version of a previous cover and Volume 3 is completely new artwork that doesn't even resemble the covers to 1 and 2.
Every so often there is a filler issue that doesn't relate to the general storyarc at hand, but does provide some details on the history of the involved characters. That evil Xavier is Shadow King, which won't be a big presence at all for quite some time to come. There's not a LOT of those types of issues, maybe less than a dozen in Claremonts whole run. I assume they were written/drawn as filler issues for when the normal issues were running behind, but who knows, maybe they were planned that way.
