I work overnights and somedays I get to leave early. I will run into the same handful of guys hunting for hot wheels while I make a few stops on my way home. One morning I saw a guy going through all the Hot Wheels, picking out every single Adam West Batmobile. I asked him if he really needed to buy every single one. He'd picked out about 15 Batmobiles and had them stacked up on a shelf next to him. I grabbed one off the top of his pile and tossed it into my basket. He didn't protest, but he gave me the evil eye. I think guys like that buy certain Hot Wheels specifically to sell on ebay. They create a kind of false scarcity for certain cars and gouge other collectors.

Most of those Hot Wheels collectors don't seem interested in movie and fantasy type cars, which happen to be the only ones I'm looking for, so I typically don't have too much trouble finding the cars I'm looking for.

I can see buying a couple of a certain car so you can have one to open and one to keep on the card, but it does seem like some people are hoarding.
