A quick excerpt from the review thread that I do over at

Star Wars- Elite Series: Kylo Ren

I have never been so pleasantly surprised with a figure in my 20 plus years of collecting. Disney Elite series has really hit it out of the park with this figure and I can only hope that there are more awesome releases to come.

If you are reading this, having no clue that Disney released a line of 10” Star Wars figures exclusive to their Disney Stores, you are certainly not alone. I recall seeing a small news item on the Toyark about it, but thought it was simply scaled up versions of their Die-Cast line (which is lacking in my opinion, so imagine my surprise when I saw Kylo on the shelf. Question, would calling him Kylo for short, be like calling Darth Vader just ‘Darth’ like Obiwan did in ep4, or the now more clear ‘Vader’ that we have come to use? Is Ren like a salutation? Hmmm. Anyways, in the box he looked pretty detailed, had some decent accessories and boasted or 30 points of articulation; all for around $45, no bad at all. Incidentally I had been eyeing the new 12” Marvel Legends pretty hard, but while they offer perhaps a bit more detail, they also $70 a pop and not exactly flying off the shelf. Maybe when they are discounted, but i'm not ready to bite just yet.

I know that some collectors tend to stay away from large figures and as space is limited that is understandable, but out of the box he really doesn't feel like a 'doll', but more so a scaled up 6” black series; it's pretty impressive actually. Some other impressions of him include: an amazing cloak with 3 separate layers, two sets of hands (fists and action) and a great deal of usable articulation. They even included wire in the hood and weights in the clock to allow the cloth to sit properly.

However, it's not without flaws. First issue was right out of the box as I literally had to strip him down to get access to the waste twist-tie holding him in place in the package; pretty frustrating if I'm being honest. Another issue is the head/neck joint. There looks to be a ball joint at the base of the neck, but nothing at the neck/skull connection. It's not a huge problem, but certainly limits head movement. And finally, while all together the cloth hood and cloak look decent, but are quite bulky if you remove the hood. Not a big deal as I will not display without, but it certainly has some hallmarks of the downsides of soft goods. The lightsaber also came with a slight bend out of the box, but I understand it happens.

Overall, it's a great figure for the price and I think it's the step in the right direction for these Disney Store exclusives. I have already picked up Vader, but I may stop short of the more human characters as I'm not a big fan of the real hair.

Pros: Great likeness and overall look, good articulation and accessories, decent price.

Cons: Cloth costume is fairly bulky.
