I believe the USS Reliant (Miranda Class) has been in development for many months. Considering the unique shape & configuration of that ship, the product developers are probably faced with a unique challenge in trying to come up with a toy design that will fit neatly into the standard size box while minimizing steps required for assembly (e.g., attaching warp nacelles and support pylons for weapons pod) + avoiding potential design flaws (e.g., weak joints, wiring, quality control). Display bases for previous ships have been such a headache over the years; they're probably very highly motivated to avoid similar hassle if it can possible be avoided.

Reliant is my favorite ship, by leaps and bounds. This release will be a grail that I've awaited for ages, and if doing it right means further delays, I for one am happy to sit tight!
