Some kids watched Child’s Play 3 and went to a shopping mall, abducted a much younger kid, tortured him in ways inspired by the film, and killed him. If I remember correctly, there was a call in the press to ban the films after it happened.

I heard a more graphic version from my friend (involving batteries) that never made it to the press, but although I don’t think he would lie about that kind of thing I question how much his dad (the barrister) would reveal that kind of information.

As I say, you can’t blame the film for the actions of a couple of evil, moronic scum, but for me the association stuck.
