I was simply giving some reasons why I still prefer to keep SOME hard copies of things that I purchase, because I have been burned by digital purchases that I supposedly "own" in the past due to corporate and legal mumbo-jumbo.

A lot of the media I lost I still have physical files for. Some of them require certain programs to run that aren't easy to find legitimately, or are readily available, while many of them simply won't play any longer due to "licenses expiring," "country restrictions," or whatever else they can cook up. This sort of thing is a lot more common than people think, and a prime example of it just recently took place with those who had digital copies of GTA 4 and it's DLC. Rockstar recently ended up patching out music originally featured in the game because they lost the ten year licenses they had to it.

Got a physical disc for the game? No problem. Unless they somehow patch and lock you out of it...it's there in it's original state for you to play anytime you want on the disc, and there isn't shit they can do about it.

I still make digital purchases every now and again, mostly on the gaming front as digital games are tend to run cheaper than physical copies, and physical copies these days usually just act as a key anyways...you'll end up downloading the game onto your hard drive no matter what, even on consoles. Plus it saves me all the pushy salesperson BS that I have to deal with just walking into a Gamestop these days.

I regularly back stuff up on both a hard drive and my PC, but having your stuff saved on a hard drive doesn't do you any favors should something happen to it. Unless you happen to have a copy of your copy on yet another drive. Even then though, God help you should one (or both) of them ever crap out through circumstance. At least with physical media, provided that you take care of your stuff, you simply pop it back in and you're good to go.

TL;DR: If you like digital media and are comfortable with it, good for you. Having been burnt though before, I wish I could say that I'm as comfortable with it as you. When companies stop doing shady shit to reduce their customer's access to products they purchased in good faith, I'll probably jump right back in with two feet and join you.

Anyways....
