Frankly, I prefer McAvoy as Charles. Don't get me wrong, Stewart is like the living image of him, BUT, Stewart's Xavier was too grandfather-esque. If you've read the comics, Charles is a glorified asshole. It's kind of like Dumbledore in Harry Potter. Richard Harris was a fantastic Dumbledore, but there was no way a sweet grandfatherly man could pull off Dumbledore's true nature the way Michael Gambon could.

I think a lot of that xavier ass-holishness was retconned in.
