It sounds to me like you're already gotten a pretty decent handle on things.
Revenge of the Fallen
is fairly self-contained. The Hunt for the Decepticons line is a bit of a continuation of it, but it's made to be just a little more generic so that Hasbro can make figures like Seaspray that weren't in the movie. This especially helps out the Generations line, which is all deluxe-sized.
Since you say that you're enjoying the Generations line so much, I'd highly recommend looking into getting some earlier released figures (despite that going against your pre-RotF plan a bit). The reason for this is that Generations is a continuation of
Classics
. Note that Classics originally was to be a brief line, but Hasbro ended up continuing it with
Universe 2.0
, and now
Generations
. While each of these are, technically, separate lines, they are made to fit in with each other.
Also noteworthy is that Generations and Hunt for the Decepticons will soon be making the transition to Reveal the Shield in 2011. For movie-styled toys, RtS will have a few of those, but the third movie will see a major reboot with that type of figure.
