My SDCC Red Skull w/Tesseract arrived today...here's some quick thoughts.

First off, I did not expect the box to be this big, or heavy for that matter. I was also surprised to see how the Red Skull was placed in the packaging as well, with no plastic cover over it and only a few plastic ties to hold him in. I guess it's not necessary to have the plastic cover thanks to the thick cardboard box it comes in (which is rather nice...if excessive...) but it still kinda threw me off when I first saw it.

As for the figure itself, this is almost exactly what I wanted from a MCU Red Skull years ago, delivering in many ways that the Select figure did not. The headsculpt bares a passing resemblance to Hugo Weaving without being a caricature like the Steve Rogers head was on the original MCU Cap figures. The eyes are nicely screenprinted (which I wasn't expecting...from photos I gathered they were painted on.) The line work on the coat is very clean as well, as well as the Hydra logo on his left shoulder. Absolutely no complaints there.

For those of you who might be worried that this is a repurposed Black Series figure, don't worry...it's not. The sculpt is new and unique, and is also a bit taller than your standard Black Series figure (here, my custom Red Skull, which uses a Death Star Trooper body.)

My only complaints with this figure, is that the hands seem a bit large, especially the hand that grips the Tesseract. I also wish that this figure came with his laser Luger/Mauser pistol that he used in the movie, along with a proper gripping hand with a trigger finger. The hands pop off easy though, so I guess I'll just have to be on the hunt for a set that will work with him. Lastly...this figure cannot stand for ****. For whatever reason, he likes to lean forward and topple over, no matter how I position his legs. Also, take GREAT CARE when utilizing the ankle joints, as mine had an incredibly strong ratchet within them, and since the plastic is a bit stiff, there is a good chance they could break if you are not careful with them.

One final note why I love this figure...

If you have the Red Skull figure from the Mandroid wave, the head works perfectly with this MCU body. The skin tones on the neck even match the head. If you don't have that figure and want to use the one from the Iron Skull, you'll have to mod it unfortunately. Still though, this is also the look I wanted for my comic Red Skull, so now I'm hoping that I'll be able to come across another loose figure at some point once the price point drops down a bit (hopfully...)

I haven't even gotten to messing around with the Tesseract yet...because I've been too busy fiddling with this guy. I highly recommend.
