Right now there is an anti American sentiment. People seem to dislike the Armed Forces currently.
I think it's more of the echo chamber effect. Most of the major American media organs are almost entirely left-liberal in their ideological bent (and there are more left-leaning people with large amounts of free time to devote to expressing their opinions on the internet), so they tend to spread such impressions through sheer volume.

Most people do, I think, but then there are disagreements over what constitutes questionable orders or going "too far." I don't recall much outrage over Ruby Ridge or Waco or bombing Serbia, for example, and right now it seems as though many "liberals" are champing at the bit to incite some sort of conflict with Russia (ironically, the Joes trying to stop someone instigating nuclear war with Russia formed the plot of one of the very earliest of Larry Hama's G.I. Joe comics, and they tended to get along somewhat passably with their Russian counterparts, with only politics really making them enemies).

Not really. The "moral center message of what G.I. Joe represents," at least in the comics and the Renegades cartoon, lies much closer to the NRA position, with both series featuring small groups of heavily-armed idealists operating by necessity either in a legal grey area or as outright outlaws to combat encroaching tyranny under the auspices of the U.S. government and the civilian "alphabet soup" intelligence services (with the CIA in particular royally screwing over the Joes in the Marvel comics on numerous occasions, and the Joes torpedoing Agency operations in retaliation).

This much is true, at least.

And you're an ardent fan, so you don't count as 'general audiences' which is why you favor the original comic. Wider audiences/average audiences favor toon as they remember it. Most don't even remember there was a comic or are aware there even is a current one.
Nah.
