Many many years ago I found a paperback with the Superman logo in one of those boxes where they sell cheap books. I just looked it up, it's original English title is "The death and life of Superman" and it came out in 1993. It's the novelization of the comic story with Doomsday and everything that happened after.
Before reading it, I had not much knowledge of the DC universe but this introduced me to all the characters, and it was a great read. I can't really get into comics, I like the pictures but there is just so little to read there
Only short conversations and exclamations of fights.
You know, I grew up in East Germany. Comics were forbidden because of the violence. I had no idea who Superman was. But since the Seventies I owned a sketch block that my West German aunt had given to me, with Christopher Reeve in costume on the title and the words SUPERMAN. I've often stared at it, not knowing what it meant. It was only in the early Nineties when I was able to watch those movies and finally understand.
But this novel opened my eyes about the whole DC universe. It blew me away.
Actually a great idea to get it out again.
