Despite the fact that Gwenpool originated from a variant cover for Spider-Gwen (a Gwen Stacy from an Earth with, among other myriad distinct differences, Gwen Stacy got bitten by the spider instead of Peter), Gwenpool isn't actually a version of Gwen Stacy; instead, her name is literally Gwen Poole, and she's a Marvel fan from "our" Earth who got transported into Earth-616, where she quickly tries becoming a superhero.
