The overuse of the term "pandering" in recent times is something that kinda bothers me, because 9 times out of 10 it's used any time a minority superhero gets an extra push from their publisher.


There's certainly good and bad ways to incorporate more diversity into comic books, but I think characters like Kamala Khan and Miles Morales are the absolute best examples of implementing more diversity into comic books. They're genuinely well-written, fun characters that don't take anything away from the characters whose mantles they borrow.

I like that there's a teenage version of Spidey that coexists with the more mature Peter Parker as his big bro/mentor while still being his own person, and I like that he's a black/hispanic character. I showed my 10-year old sister that there's a young, female, muslim superhero running around in the comics that's not only an Avenger, but also insanely popular with readers and she absolutely loved it, and that's ultimately what matters.

As long as it's not harming anybody, I don't see the problem.
