And the Mandarin for that matter. Both versions of that figure had awesome headsculpts, but the figures themselves SUCKED.

As I mentioned earlier...found Rescue and Union Jack at Gamestop yesterday, so here's a few thoughts...

Rescue: Maybe I'm in the minority, but I was actually pretty excited for this figure. Was being the definitive term here, because while it's close to what we saw in the protoypes, and close enough to what we saw on the big screen, it has a few issues that drag it down a notch.

First off...do you see it? What was easily the biggest thing to get excited about (an actual body to use the recent MCU Pepper head other than her yoga class gear...) is something of a let down, because while Pepper's head fits perfectly on the Rescue body with no modding needed, it sits SUPER HIGH on the neck. It's not so bad if you have the closed backpack accessory on her, but if you take that off, the hair just floats over a huge empty gap on the back, which is even more noticeable if you turn the figure to it's side. Hopefully Hasbro will release a proper body that will work for Pepper (I'm hoping the upcoming Peggy Carter will be a good fit...) Size wise, the figure is pretty decent, if a bit small. I don't really get the impression of a woman wearing a suit of armor like we do with the newer Iron Men and War Machines.

Other than that, Rescue is a pretty good figure, if not perfect. Paint work was decent on mine, but like many of the Iron Men/armor/Ultron figures in the past, I wish they would apply those paints to the back of the figure as well as the front. It leaves the figure feeling unfinished. Rescue gets good movement with double jointed arms and bicep swivels, but she is hampered a little at the thigh cut and wrist swivels due to the sculpt. The backpacks are the only accessories to speak of, and I honestly like these better than the folding fin style that was on the Studio MK.VII Iron Man. They plug in well, and stay there...but unfortunately, with no repulser effects nor alternate hands to speak of, Pepper is relegated to simply punching her foes in the face (or the nards), despite all that wonderful technology. The knees on mine were a little wobbly as well, and as a result, she has a hard time standing, especially with the open back pack.

Good figure though, and despite my paint nickpicks, worth picking up. Hopefully we get another MCU Pepper figure in the future with a head that can fit properly on Rescue's body.

Union Jack: This is a figure that I was really pissed about, not because we are receiving it...but because Hasbro in what had to be a cost cutting move, decided to switch body types at the last possible second, sticking Jack on a Bucky Cap body, instead of the Sunfire/2099 body that we first saw it on. It's aggravating not just because of the lost articulation, but because it gives Union Jack a profile that I feel is a bit bulkier than it should be.

That said, this is a pretty good (if simplified and less articulated) update to the Red Hulk version. I like the colors of the plastics used, and the additional pieces such as the wrist and ankle cuffs are nicely used. The belt is an entirely new piece as far as I can tell, and the weapons store well enough...the dagger doesn't quite go all the way in, and the holster doesn't peg close with his pistol in it, but still, I'll take functional weapon storage over phony perma-weapon decorations any day.

The headsculpt to this figure is simple, but awesome, as we now have a generic military balaclava styled head that would work perfectly for customs or say...six inch Joes like Beach Head, or Firefly. The Union Jack painted on the costume is actually really well done and very clean on mine, but it's not quite symmetrical. I would also say that if you can, try and find this figure in the wild as opposed to grabbing him online, because you will want to inspect the pattern. It's been wildly varied on all of the figures I've spotted in hand thus far, with some of them being really off.

Truthfully, outside the body mold swap, the only other gripe that I have with the figure is that the pistol is not the British Webley styled pistol that Union Jack uses in the comics. This looks more like a Magnum and might be the same pistol Misty Knight came with (I didn't dig up the figure to check.) Some proper fisted hands for punching Nazis would be nice too, but being that we received two weapons and a nifty belt to hold them, I'm not gonna hold it against Hasbro, especially when he was a victim of budget cuts as is.

Great figure, and while a bit biased due to my love of the character (the very first Captain America comic I ever read had Union Jack teaming up with Cap to fight Baron Blood.) I do recommend picking him up. Just be sure you can inspect those paint apps first.
