No your first instinct was right. That Raiden looks terrible. It is obvious Storm has more than one sculptor. At least one of them is amazing, and at least one of them should not be allowed to do professional work until they can prove themselves worthy. That Raiden has absolutely nothing aesthetically pleasing about it whatsoever. It resembles MKII Raiden in design, but that's it. This is worse than MKIII scorpion, but MKIII Scorpion is more disappointing because all of the Pallette swaps/repaints of that design will also be garbage. I'm going to guess the same sculptor has done those 2.
2 recent Sculpts that are incredible and look great in almost every way are the Ultra SF2 Sagat and The MKIII Cyber ninja Mold. Storm was my favorite toy company until they have been dropping the ball lately. Just compare This Raiden and the MKIII Scorpion with their first release of MKII Scorpion, and you can tell they are going in the wrong direction. How far my expectations for them have Fallen.
If you really feel that that Raiden isn't up to par you shouldn't encourage them to keep putting out sub par figures like that by buying it. For $80+ Dollars Raiden should be a great figure not just something we need to fill a Storm MK roster hole.
P.S. The Golden Axe Skeleton looks very promising. Need to see more angles on that one.
