I thought the Black Series would flop without vehicles, but it seems the Black Series is thriving among SW collectors? IDK for sure. I think maybe some collectors are relieved they don't have to spend money on vehicles and can just focus on their favorite characters.

But for me it was opposite with Marvel stuff though. I loved MU... 3.75" scale X-men were my dream and when MU died I made the jump to Legends without even thinking about it because I was gonna complete my 90s X-men no matter what.
biggest difference is in the past 40 years, there has never NOT been Starwars. During the span of time between ROTJ and ep 1, there were dozens of books, comics, video games, and more keeping Starwars fans from moving on, so over the decades, the characters have transcended being fictional characters into almost fully realized people (funny, too, considering how poorly George Lucas did character development in the movies). even people like me, who couldn’t care less about the characters can give a basic run down of the characters’ personalities. With GI Joe, it was like any other toy line. Very little personality outside of their stereotype. When the cartoon ran out of toys to peddle, it fizzed out. For years, most stores besides Toys R Us stopped carrying the product. I remember the Sigma 6 stuff going on clearance a week after debut at one local store, never stocked again.

Personally, I think it was a poor choice of Hasbro/marvel to stop the 4” line. It’s so flexible compared to other scales, especially with characters that are oddly sized, and would give a perfect scale for playsets like the xmansion or doom’s castle. Unfortunately, playsets and vehicles don’t seem to move at retail. I remember seeing $70 tie fighters clearanced for $9, the Batcave was at Ross for $27, etc. Hard for toy companies to compete with Apple and Nintendo.
