It wasn't remotely Joker either. Joker is a genius as well as a menace. He challenges Batman. Phoenix couldn't challenge a toddler. He shows no intelligence, and was more pathetic than anything. Not even sympathetically pathetic. I never felt ANYTHING for the character. For an Oscar nominated performance, I expected to at least be impressed with that... really wasn't. All I got was a mediocre Scorsese homage.

I've worked with and around the mentally ill as well. It's a miracle this movie didn't do more harm than good. Phoenix was a joke... but not the Joker. To each their own, I'm glad you liked it. For me, and a lot of people in my social circles, it really didn't impress us at all. Especially not 11 Oscar nods. Sadly, little Leaf Phoenix can't do any wrong in the eyes of the Hollywood elite.
