I'm guessing that someone at Spin Master is a fan those designs and, you know what, I think that's a good sign. It means that there are actual comic fans working on these toys. An occasional ugly New 52 redesign is a fair trade off for obscure characters like Killer Moth.

On top of that, Spin Master must still be doing their creature chaos branding for these so it makes sense to go with these versions.
