Internet searches function off an old quote from OHotMU that puts a malnourished Galactus at just under thirty feet. However, I think I've only ever seen Starlin illustrate Galactus as being that small in a moment when he was starving - also the reason Thanos was able to actually fight him with some semblance of parity. Most people with a familiarity for cosmic Marvel know the character is typically drawn as being much larger than that. We've seen many iconic illustrations of Galactus birthing/holding/rejuvenating Silver Surfer in the palm of his hand and we've also seen Galactus (well, Franklin Richards, as Galactus) fight Celestials eye to eye and stand in equal stature to them. But let's go conservative and only reference Surfer being engulfed in Galactus' palm. Surfer's listed at six feet tall. Still being conservative, let's say that from the tip of the middle finger to base of palm where the hand meets the wrist, for Galactus, is 7-8 feet - remember, "engulfed" by Galactus' hand, meaning the distance would have to be greater than Surfer is 'tall'. If we go by normal human proportions correlating hand size to height the standard ratio is 9.03 to 1. That would be place Galactus at 63'-72' and, again, that's a conservative estimate as I have seen many illustrations featuring Surfer and board completely enveloped in the palm of one hand. To get a better visualization, try to enclose your own hand around the current Surfer fig and board. That should provide a perspective on how large a scale-Galactus should be.

Now people will quibble and exposure to stories will also play a factor, but this is one of many topics that is a bit more involved than a quick google search. As much as I love the the OHotMU as a definitive guide, there were many things, especially as it regards height, that were/are inconsistent with what regular readers experience. The Hulk and the Thing have been drawn as being much larger than their "official" heights, and Cap Britain is significantly taller than 5'11", just to name a few instances. Additionally, spacial awareness, one the nine types of intelligence laid out by Gardener, in 1983, varies from person to person. I'm not name dropping the study and its progenitor as common knowledge - I'm only familiar with it from having worked in education, for a time, and having had to review the material as a course of study. Basically, some people just have an affinity for seeing these sorts of things in a 3-D world, which may attest to the variance in opinion here. Please don't take my comments as my implying that people that think a proper Galactus figure should be greater than 36" are in any way smarter, I'm just opining about the possible reasons for disparate opinions.

...meh.
