Picked up the entire Gamerverse Abomination wave the other day, so here's a couple of quick thoughts...

Rage: I have no attachment to the character, so I can't say that it gets me excited to have, but it's well executed and it should make fans of the character happy. I really like the new jacket parts, and I love how the mask is put together. It looks like a guy actually wearing a mask, as opposed to a mask simply being painted on his face. Some major gripes though, the figure uses that gummy plastic on the legs, and I swear, his right leg is slightly longer than it's left. The right bicep joint on the elbow is also stuck too, which is a QC issue with this wave I've found...Cap, Mach 1 and Leader all had similar issues. I had to actually take Mach 1 and Leader arms apart in order to get it functioning.

Captain Marvel: Nice to finally have this guy. I like the body choice (Spider-UK) and the paints on mine were nice and clean. I like the headsculpt, but it could have used a bit more paint on the mouth portion just to give it a bit of definition. Only major gripes I have with him are a lack of hands or effects, which is a major gripe for the entire wave, as the only figure with any sort of accessories is Iron Man, Cap, and Kamala, and in the cases of those figures, are all things we've seen before a thousand times. Still, it fills a much needed spot.

Leader and Mach 1: The two characters I was most excited for with this wave just so happen to be the most underwhelming. Mach 1 uses that Ultimate Beetle body (which still has it's issues) and while the metallic colors are nice, the flat whites and reds of the armor and helmet do it no favors. The hand choice is horrible as well, as he has gripping hands (fisted would have been preferable) and they look awkward and long on the arms. Leader...I don't know what it is...it does nothing for me. I like the use of the Reed Richards body, but something about the headsculpt feels...off, and I honestly think the Toybiz versions look so much better. The lack of accessories also hurt it...a laser pistol or some kind of handheld contraption really would help with the fun factor here.

Gamerverse Cap and Iron Man: Gonna sounds biased, but these are the best two figures of the wave, hands down. The Iron Man has a really nice sculpt that gives me Extremis armor vibes, and would look good on an MCU shelf as well as a comic shelf. The head is a bit tiny though, though I think these would make great drones for Tony because of that. The Cap is actually my favorite figure of the wave, which again sounds biased as I'm a Cap fan, but I will say that I HATE the costume design for the upcoming game, so I was not expecting to like this as much as I do in figure form. It would look great on an MCU shelf (though I'm going to be making this Cap an unofficial member of the G.I.Joe team once the Classified figures start dropping) as it has a ton of new sculpting that's very grounded in it's realistic tactical gear approach. Cap even comes with a trigger hand to hold a pistol or rifle, and the shield design is awesome, and is a completely new sculpt to boot. My gripe though, is that the shield uses that wretched clip system, and as a result, it will not clip onto Cap's arm securely, as it falls loosely off the wrist, and the armored forearms are too thick for it to attach without risk of breaking. Thankfully, the clip is easily removable so you can customize it with your own strap (which I will be doing...) but c'mon Hasbro...we shouldn't have to. This clip system sucks.

Kamala Khan: Elephant in the room...shame on you Hasbro for re-releasing this pegwarmer with a BAF piece. If anything, this should have been the one figure to not have a BAF piece, not Cap. I will give it some merits though. Although VERY minimal, I do like the changes that were made, and I do like it better than the original figure. I like the updated skin tone, and the use of digital printing on the headsculpt is really makes it stand out. I like the muted color scheme over the brighter colors of the original, and the new boots are a nice addition. Like Cap and Iron Man, I feel that this figure could be placed onto an MCU shelf very easily thanks to those details. Despite those changes though, does it warrant another purchase? Not really, unless you're trying to complete the BAF of course, and I already have a feeling that part is gonna be full priced on the secondary market as no one was clamoring for this one and people try to make their money back. Perhaps if they had released the version from the game reveal I might feel a little differently.

But I wanted that BAF part...so here we are...

Gamerverse Abomination: It didn't take long, but we finally have an Abomination that's in scale with the newer Hulk figures that have come out over the last year. I really like the sculpt work that went into this guy, especially on those nasty feet of his. I dig the spiny look of him, and I kinda wish this was how he looked in the Norton film as opposed to....whatever that previous Abomination was. You can also use the head to the Civil War BAF with this figure, though you will have to mod it a tiny bit with some dremeling and paint for the perfect look. It's an option though.

The gripes that I have with this guy is a minor and major one. On the minor side, I just wish the eyes were done differently, maybe simply just whited or yellowed out. On the major front, the plastic is once again that softer, more gummy plastic, and as a result, the joints are a little flimsy in the ankles, making this guy hard to stand because he's top heavy and the ankles simply can't support the weight. Despite that gripe, I seriously love anything on this body mold, so I'm glad to have him.

Overall, definitely a cash grab wave, and honestly, not a great one. Cap and Iron Man are the bright spots, and Rage is also done well enough to warrant a look. Mar-Vell is a pretty average release but it fills a roster spot. Leader and Mach 1 are pretty underwhelming, but they fill a spot as well for those who need them. Kamala, a nice redo, but prepare to see a flood of her again on store shelves (most likely with a missing or swapped figure or BAF piece.) A-Bomb is another good large BAF to go along with our collection of Hulks, despite the gummy parts.
