WOWOWOW! That is the greatest news. I heard Randy say, "All in". Damn he really meant it. I can't sleep now!

I hope for this so badly....

I think I'm in the same boat as you…I remember the toys a lot more than the show. That's the main reason why I'm struggling with skipping the Super 7 line.... I think if I ever get real jumpy for the Playmates versions, I'll just buy the vintage Playmates versions.
Thanks man! It was 100% or nothing!
I went back and forth so many times with Super7 too. It's either too much dough or sacrificing buying other figures I want for figures I "already" have.
NECA is the choice for sure. Super7 is the deep cut.
If you don't have the originals I would start there too. It has the real nostalgia.
If you have those, and you start to really love them, you'll want the Super7's. The playmates were a lot bigger in my mind as a kid. It's like a 3 1/2 inch scale. Super7 are fully fleshed 6-7 inches. The figures are more faithful to the original character concept designs at the time as well.
Peter Laird drew the mutagen man concept for playmates.

The playmates toy does a great job taking a lot from the design. The Super7 looks even more like it. It's all very detailed and complicated. Way too much for animation of the day. Even today it would be a lot. So it got watered down. Like most of the cartoon designs.
I LOVE the cartoon look. It just has less of the original creators inside of it. Those designers were kicking ass back then.

I absolutely love the cartoon figures NECA has put out thus far, but some of the show designs are sub-par to the Playmates toy designs. Slash being a prime example.
Slash is a great example. Mutagen man is an example too. Not as sup-par as Slash but it's considerably watered down from the original. Peter Lairds original concept art looks a lot more like the Playmates. So many great details. (Part of me really wishes they used those actual designs for the Super7 figures, Mondo Gecko is insane)

I really appreciate that hard work now in a world where they don’t spend as much time on details. Details cost too much. Character designs get watered down from the outset because they know it will get cut. Remaking the Playmates is like honoring a time when these character designers went all out and were able to show how amazingly talented they were without so much of the industry editing it all down.
